HESI Testing

Hours

Fall and Spring:

  • Monday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday & Wednesday, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. (week of 2/17 thru the week of 5/6).
  • Thursday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Saturday, 8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. (Saturday 2/23 thru Saturday 5/4).
  • Excluding holidays and college breaks.
  • All tests must be completed 10 minutes before closing.

Summer:

  • Monday & Tuesday, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Wednesday, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. (week of 6/3 thru the week of 7/29).
  • Thursday, 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
  • Excluding holidays and college breaks.
  • All tests must be completed 10 minutes before closing.

When you come to test, please make sure you have the following:

  • a current, valid photo ID (your student ID is helpful)
  • your student ID #
  • the DUO app: downloaded to your cell phone, or DUO passcode ready

GCC HESI A2, HESI PN or HESI PSY Testing is currently being proctored only in person by appointment only.

Be Prepared

  • No breaks are allowed during your exam. Plan accordingly.
  • Create an Evolve account (pdf). Your username and password are required on the day of testing. If you have one already, bring your username and password with you.
  • Scratch paper and pencils will be provided.

HESI A2

The Evolve Reach (HESI) Admission Assessment Exam (A2) is the Nursing program entrance exam. The HESI A2 is a computer-based test consisting of seven modules: Math Skills, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary & General Knowledge, Grammar, Learning Style, Personality Style, and Critical Thinking. Please check the Evolve website for study materials.

The Science exams in Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology and Physics will NOT be administered or used for admission to MCCCD Nursing Programs. If you need any of the Science sections you will be charged an extra $25 fee and must request the extra section(s). Visit the Maricopa Nursing Programs for admissions requirements.   • All seven modules must be completed within a single four-hour testing session.
  • Personal calculators are not permitted. When allowed, a calculator will appear in the testing program.
  • Scores are available immediately. The results are valid for two years.
  • You may retest after a 60-day waiting period. Up to two retests are permitted within one year from the date of the first valid test.

HESI A2 Testing Fees

$45 for students testing for the MCCCD Nursing program.

$70 for students testing for a school outside the Maricopa Community College District.

  • This includes an additional $25 Proctor test fee.
  • All sections are available. Know which sections are required for your school.
  • Tell us you are testing for an outside college or you may take the wrong exam.

Payment must be made at least one day before the scheduled test date. You need to call the Cashier's office at 623-845-3589 (option 4) to pay your testing fees.

HESI A2 Test Prep Workshop

This tutor-facilitated workshop will help you prepare for the HESI A2 test. The workshop will review math, grammar, vocabulary and reading comprehension. You will receive valuable and helpful materials to use at the workshop and take home for further preparation.

All workshops are held in the Center for Learning and start at 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

HESI PN

The HESI PN is the Nursing program entrance exam for students looking to enter block three or block four:

  • The HESI PN is for students applying for Blocks three or four of the nursing program. The exam is a computerized, not timed exam designed to assess basic knowledge of practical nursing. The average time it takes to test is one hour so plan accordingly.
  • Current LPN applicants and transfer applicants seeking admission into block three or block four must achieve a score of 850 or higher to be considered for entrance into the program.
  • The test is not timed and takes approximately one hour to complete.
  • The score is available immediately and is valid for six months.
  • Students may retest after 6 months.

HESI PN Testing Fees

$55 for students testing for the MCCCD Nursing program.

$80 for students testing for an outside college. This includes an additional $25 proctor fee.

HESI Specialty: Psychiatric Content Specialty Examination

The HESI Specialty Exam Psychology & Mental Health is a Nursing program exam. Students who feel they have sufficient behavioral health/psychiatric didactic and clinical content which was completed through coursework, and/or work-related experience, may request to waive NCE214OP by challenging the HESI Psychiatric Content specialty examination at the college testing centers. In order to waive this required course, the applicant must score 850 or higher. In order to challenge the HESI psych specialty exam to waive NCE214OP, the student must obtain permission from the Nursing Director at his or her home campus.

The exam is computerized and must be completed within a single testing session. Scratch paper and pencils will be provided. The score will be available immediately and is valid for six months. Students may retest after 6 months.

Testing Environment

Students are under video and audio surveillance the entire time. All testing rooms are monitored by a camera system.
