Bio

Biography

Lisa Degiorgio Worthy received her PhD in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Arizona. She received her Masters Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Utah State University. As a counselor, Dr. Worthy has worked with individuals with disabilities including persons with traumatic brain injury, learning disabilities and behavioral health disorders. As a vocational counselor, Dr. Worthy interviewed clients, used available medical and psychological information to evaluate disability severity, functional impairment, vocational goals and personal strengths to develop comprehensive services and treatment recommendations. She has also worked as a crisis counselor and substance abuse counselor providing outpatient counseling and psychoeducation services to young adult reoffenders. She is an approved and recognized Vocational Expert by the Social Security Administration and is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor.

Dr. Worthy's research interests have explored counselor training and assessment. Most recently, her research has examined psychometric standards for several criminal justice and counseling screening instruments. She has 50 international, regional, state and local presentations on topics related to disability, testing, assessment and has 12 publications in these areas.

Dr. Worthy has been teaching graduate and undergraduate courses for 5 years including online and traditional courses. As an undergraduate instructor in Psychology, Dr. Worthy is an advocate for Open Educational Resources (OER) and incorporates research related activities to reinforce concepts, challenge critical thinking, and model the role of psychology in the 'real world.'
