
Watch This Rare Event at the GCC North Observatory
Witness the Magic of the ‘Blood Moon’ and the total Lunar Eclipse at GCC’s A.S.T.R.O.Club’s Evening Skies - Lunar event. The event is open to all members of the community who have an interest in Astronomy or are curious and want to experience this rare astronomical occurrence.
You can:
- View the eclipse through the observatory’s eight Celestron 8’ high-powered telescopes.
- Meet with GCC faculty from the Astronomy and Geology departments to answer your questions.
- View a geo-planetary display complete with real meteorite samples.
- View a live feed of the eclipse on a large-screen TV.
- Warm yourself with hot cocoa and moon pies.
- Enjoy hands-on experiences:
- Make a planisphere (star chart analog computing instrument) that maps the stars visible in the night sky at different times of the year.
- Make a mini lightsaber by creating a working electrical ‘paper circuit’.
- Make a soda straw rocket or a straw loop plane.
