Student Biographies
Asa Abbott (Anthony) is very excited to be making his college debut in The Theory of Relativity. Previously, he has had roles in Little Shop of Horrors as Seymour Krelborn, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown as Charlie Brown, The Addams Family as Lucas Beineke, and Chicago as part of the ensemble.
Francisco Alexander (Mike) has been in theatre for 4 years, landing roles that include Book of Will as Ben Jonson, Almost, Maine as Steve, and Matilda: The Musical as Ms.Agatha Trunchbull.
Micah Blalack (Audio Technician/Sound Board Operator) is a GCC Audio Production student. Previously, Micah played Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast and Harold Hill in The Music Man at Musical Theatre of Anthem. He shifts from onstage to backstage, bringing his passion for theatre to the crew.
Britney Bugarin (Caroline) has always had a passion for musical theatre. She is excited to share her talent with you.
Samuel Cuauhtémoc (Adam) has performed in GCC productions that include Something's Afoot, Romeo and Juliet, and Crazytown. He is a GATE award recipient for Best Featured Actor for Something's Afoot. He recently directed a segment of GCC’s Production of Love/Sick. He will finish his degree at GCC in the summer.
Hadessah Dailey (Julie) has been in many different productions in the past 5 years! Her favorites include Pearl from The SpongeBob Musical and Aquata in The Little Mermaid. She is also currently involved in a production of Descendants playing Maleficent!
Katie Doan (Amy) has played roles that include Matilda: The Musical as Mrs. Wormwood, Radium Girls as Katherine Wiley, and A Midsummer Night's Dream as Francis Flute. She was rated superior at the 2024 Western Acting Festival of Theatre in Musical Theatre Solo. She was recently seen in GCC’s touring production of A Shakespeare's Project as Olivia.
Cecelia Leija (Mira) has been involved in theater for the better part of her life. She has played roles like Miss Honey in Matilda the Musical and Betty/Fox in GCC’s touring production of Aesop’s Fables.
Isabella Martin (Sarah) has been in multiple theatrical shows such as Honk Jr., Peter Pan, The Secret Garden, Freaky Friday, and The Addams Family. Isabella has taken vocal lessons for 9 years as well as some acting classes at the Seattle Children’s Theatre. Her biggest accomplishment at the moment is releasing her musical album Found, which she put her heart and soul into creating.
Dylan McCartney (Ryan, Dance Captain) has been involved in theatre for 2 years, in that time landing several roles that include Jesus Christ Superstar as Simon Zealotes, Romeo and Juliet as Gregory, and Something's Afoot as Lord Rancour. In those 2 years, he has won the Officers' award from GCC's GATES award show and is an active member of GCC's chapter of Delta Psi Omega. This year, Dylan is currently involved in GCC's theatre department as a part of the cast of both Love/Sick and The Theory of Relativity.
David Rodriguez (Oliver) has been involved in theatre for 5 years and has performed in several plays, including A Midsummer Night's Dream as Oberon and The Book of Will as Ed Knight. This is David's first production in GCC's theatre department.
Morgan Slim (Jenny) has been a student of Glendale Community College’s theater program since 2023. They have experience in a variety of productions, including Crazytown, Four Dogs and a Bone, and Romeo and Juliet. Morgan was awarded Lead Actress for their role as Babs Buttlebee in Crazytown.
Conner Smith (Paul) has been involved in theatre for 3 years. Some of his previous roles include Gaston (Beauty and The Beast), Pilate (Jesus Christ Superstar), and Nigel (Something's Afoot). He recently directed a segment of GCC’s Production of Love/Sick. He's currently finishing his associate in Musical Theatre.
Faculty and Staff Biographies
Eric Beeck (Faculty Set Designer Mentor) has a graduate degree from Ohio University and has been teaching as an adjunct professor in scenic design and technology at GCC for the past year and a half. His work has also been seen around the valley with Stray Cat Theatre Company, Nearly Naked Theater, Southwest Shakespeare Theatre, and Phoenix Theatre. Eric is an AriZoni Award-winning set designer for Stray Cat’s production of.
Robert Esler (Faculty Sound Mentor) is faculty in Sound Design and Sound Reinforcement at Glendale Community College. Many of his students, present and alumni, proudly work in the areas of film, theater and video games. When not teaching at GCC, Robert performs regularly with Crossing 32nd St., a Phoenix-based contemporary music group, and plays Filipino indigenous music with the Pakaraguian Kulintang Ensemble. Most recently, Robert is a director of the Arizona-based non-profit 501(c)3 arts/technology organization, urbanSTEW. His projects with urbanSTEW range from interactive music for dance and performance, software and game development, instrument design and interactive installations. Additionally, he is developing generative music software for the iPhone, iPod touch and eventually the Android platform. Dr. Robert Essler holds degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music, Yale University and the University of California, San Diego.
Ken Goodenberger (Music Director) is a 4 time AriZoni Theater Awards of Excellence winner as a Musical Director. Past shows at GCC include last year’s The Theory of Relativity and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. In addition, Ken is no stranger to the stage as an actor and singer in Musicals around the valley for the last 30 years. Favorite roles include Tony in West Side Story, Frederick in Pirates of Penzance, The Mysterious Man/Narrator in Into the Woods, Judge Terpin in Sweeney Todd and Father in Children of Eden. Mr. Goodenberger is the Artistic Director of Showcase Concerts, the parent company of OperaAntics (formerly OperaTunity), a 4 person Opera Troupe which has performed over 1000 shows in Valley area schools. Ken is also the Artistic Director of West Valley Chorale, a 70-voice community choir in the West Valley. Thanks to David and Leslie for making me part of the team.
William Jones (Performing Arts Center Coordinator, Technical Director, Faculty Lighting Mentor, Faculty Props Mentor ) has been involved in building, acting, and facilitating theater in all its forms since the mid-'90s. Previous credits include The Muckle Man (actor/set construction), The Blue Room (actor/set construction), and Happyslap (actor/set construction). He is looking forward to creating even more amazing, exciting, and dynamic theater with GCC.
Asia Natschke (Touring Production Assistant) is a current GCC Theatre Arts Program student and a Performing Arts Center staff member. Asia has been nominated by KCACTF for her work as a stage manager for The Mousetrap, Barefoot in The Park, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Due to her experience at GCC, Asia has had the opportunity to work as a stage manager for local theater companies, such as TheaterWorks and Ghostlight. She recently directed 2 sequences of GCC’s production of Love/Sick.
David Seitz (Director, Producer, Faculty Stage Management Mentor, Faculty Sound Mentor) is the Program Director for the GCC Theatre Arts & Film and the Musical Theatre Programs. With an MFA from the University of Southern California, Professor Seitz has taught for years in the K-12 system, his own acting school (Actors Academy), and Theatre & Film here at GCC since 1998. He has directed and operated summer performing arts camps through the Valley, as well as having worked in Hollywood and community theatre. David has been AriZoni nominated for Outstanding Production as a co-producer of Based on a Totally True Story and has been honored by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for his work on the Neil Simon comedy California Suite, the musical Working, the absurdist David Ives comedy All In The Timing, and the adaptation of George Orwell’s dystopian drama 1984. He has been recognized by KCACTF Region 8 for his work as the SDC Student Directing Initiative Program Coordinator and has been awarded KCACTF’s highest honor - The Gold Medallion.
Kris Swinson (Audiovisual Technician, Faculty Sound Mentor) holds an AAS in Audio Production Technologies and Sound Design from GCC and is now their resident audiovisual technician and advisor for the Performing Arts Department. Having worked continuously on productions as Sound Designer/Operator, Media Technician, and Lighting Technician since 2012, his work with GCC’s theater program continues to grow as he expands his capabilities as a technician and as a mentor for students and staff interested in audiovisual entertainment technologies. He looks forward to working more with students and other professionals in the community.
Lesley Tutnick-Machbitz (Director, Producer, Faculty Costume Mentor) Lesley’s work includes repertory, regional, national and world premiere theatre as well as theatre for young audiences. Lesley has both regional and national commercials to her credits as well as several independent film roles. She earned her degrees in Theatre Performance as well as a three-year certificate of study in Meisner Technique from Meisner’s PlayHouse West in Los Angeles and Summer Congress at The American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. Locally, Lesley was nominated for AriZoni awards for her work in Cactus Flower, My Children! My Africa!, All Through The Night, and Dark of the Moon. She is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association and Screen Actors Guild.
Original Creative Team Biographies
Neil Bertram (Composer, Lyricist) is the composer and lyricist of Broadway's The Story of My Life with book writer Brian Hill (four Drama Desk Award nominations). Other projects with Brian include The Adventures of Pinocchio (Chicago Shakespeare Theater), The Theory of Relativity (Canadian Music Theatre Project, Goodspeed Musicals, London Off-West End), Something Wicked This Way Comes (Delaware Theatre Company - 11 Barrymore Award nominations), and You Are Here(Goodspeed Musicals). Neil also wrote the score for Chicago Shakespeare Theater's and Asolo Repertory Theatre's productions of Shakespeare in Love. Upcoming projects include Les Belles (the stage adaptation of Michel Tremblay's Les Belles Soeurs) and the stage adaptation of Disney's beloved film Bedknobs & Broomsticks.
Neil's awards include the ASCAP Foundation's Yellen Award, a Jonathan Larson Foundation Award, and a Dramatists Guild Fellowship.
The Story of My Life and The Theory of Relativity are licensed through Music Theatre International. The Adventures of Pinocchio is licensed through Rogers & Hammerstein. Cast albums include The Story of My Life and The Theory of Relativity (both on PS Classics).
Brian Hill (Book) with composer/lyricist Neil Bartram has written The Adventures of Pinocchio, The Theory of Relativity and The Story of My Life, which premiered on Broadway in 2009, earning four Drama Desk Award nominations (Outstanding Musical, Music, Lyrics, and Book). Current Bartram and Hill projects include Senza Luce (CMTP), Les Belles, You Are Here, Bedknobs and Broomsticks and Something Wicked This Way Comes (Delaware Theatre Company - 11 Barrymore Award nominations). Brian wrote the new book for the Old Globe's production of October Sky and the revised book for the Goodman Theatre's acclaimed production of Brigadoon.

This production is entered in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF). The aims of this national theater education program are to identify and promote quality in college-level theater production. To this end, each production entered is eligible for a response by a regional KCACTF representative, and selected students and faculty are invited to participate in KCACTF programs involving scholarships, internships, grants and awards for actors, directors, dramaturgs, playwrights, designers, stage managers and critics at both the regional and national levels.
Productions entered on the Participating level are eligible for invitation to the KCACTF regional festival and may also be considered for national awards recognizing outstanding achievement in production, design, direction and performance.
Last year more than 1,500 productions were entered in the KCACTF involving more than 200,000 students nationwide. By entering this production, our theater department is sharing in the KCACTF goals to recognize, reward, and celebrate the exemplary work produced in college and university theaters across the nation.
