Michelle Blomberg is residential faculty in Digital Media Arts. Ms. Blomberg teaches Graphic Design, Design Self Promotion and the Capstone where students work with real clients on projects. One of her favorite projects is The Traveler, GCC's award winning literary and visual arts publication which she has been privileged to oversee the design of since 2010. Her passions are mentoring students to help them achieve their goals, helping develop successful online and hybrid communities and user experience design.
Michelle is originally from Michigan where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Visual Communications from Eastern Michigan University. While working at the design firm Q LTD, she designed large campaigns for clients like the SIGGRAPH Conferences, the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority and the University of Michigan. While at Q, she started teaching adjunct at Eastern Michigan University and The College for Creative Studies in Detroit. She then worked for Proquest as Online Marketing Manager and finally as a Software Product Manager for online learning software. With 15 years of industry experience, she loves to help students move from student to the working world.
She has been developing and teaching online and hybrid courses since 1999. She received her Master's Degree from Northern Arizona University online in Instructional Technology with a focus on higher education online learning in 2017. Michelle has been at GCC since 2004, first as an Director of Instructional Technology in the IT Department then her current faculty position since 2010. One of her favorite sayings in class is, "Done is better than perfect." This can apply to many things in life.
She is a member of the Online Educational Resouces committee which strives to develop and collect no or low cost online resources instead of expensive textbooks to save students money. She is also the Art and Humanities Social Media Coordinator for @gccazart.
Other professional pursuits include creating marketing and media for a photography business she runs with her husband. On a personal level, Michelle and her husband are raising 4 adventurous teens, traveling in their Sprinter van and mountain biking. She can testify that you don't have to be the best at something to have fun doing it.
