Bio
Biography
I earned a BS and an MS in Mathematics from Brigham Young University followed years later by completing a PhD in Mathematics Education at Arizona State University. I have been teaching mathematics in higher education and/or working on my doctorate degree full-time since 2004. From 2013 to 2017, I was also a researcher for the Arizona Mathematics Partnership, an NSF-supported project that provided professional development for hundreds of middle school mathematics teachers throughout the Phoenix valley. My path has led me to GCC, where I am excited to help our student body develop a love for mathematics.
As an instructor, I strive to help students develop an interest and curiosity about mathematics and to make sense of what they are learning. I engage students by emphasizing the applications of mathematics and introducing realistic problems prior to discussing the mathematics that is useful in solving them. Learning mathematics should be a joy to students!
