Bio

Biography

I began my career as a naval officer, flying an EC-130Q strategic communications aircraft for Fleet Air Recon Squadron FOUR out of Naval Air Test Center Patuxent River, MD -- I was the "button" for our ballistic nuclear missile submarines, so I know a lot more about nuclear war than I ever really wanted to know. After the Navy, I served as a NASA engineer, working in orbital mechanics for the Space Shuttle, Hubble Space Telescope, and Chandra X-Ray Telescope. I was a part of the team that sent four spacecraft to Mars (two orbiters and two landers), and I signed the side of the two Mars Exploration Rovers which are currently sitting on the surface of Mars.

In addition to my engineering degree, I have a Master's in Astrophysics and a Master's and a Doctorate in Education. I now teach engineering physics and astronomy for GCC, where we use social- and project-based learning. If you want to find aliens (for real!) or play with battlebots, these are the courses for you!

Remember, as we used to say in the Navy "if you aren't having fun you aren't doing it right"!
