Bio
Biography
Donald Smith is the Chair of GCC's Performing Arts Department and has been a Residential faculty member since 2000. In addition to teaching music history and serving as Department Chair, Dr. Smith is the music program's advisor for AA,FA, Emphasis in Music degree, MCCCD's Music Instructional Council Chair and university/community college articulation lead. He also serves as the co-chair of GCC's department chairs and is a member of the College Leadership Team. Dr. Smith recently served as the co-chair of the Technology Advisory Committee for three years.
As a musician, he has performed with the Arizona Opera, West Valley Symphony, Phoenix Symphony, Phoenix Chamber Brass and the American Festival Orchestra in a tour of China. Dr. Smith is currently affiliated with the International Trumpet Guild, the College Music Society and the National Association of Schools of Music.
Dr. Smith graduated from California State University - Chico with a Bachelor of Arts - Music and Arizona State University with Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Solo Trumpet Performance. His primary teachers were Grant Wolf, Rick Winslow, Vince Prudente and David Hickman.
