Bio

Biography

Learning in all its forms is something I value in life. To be able to help people learn is my dream come true.

In my classroom, I want to be sure students think critically, write to learn, and get their questions answered about composition or literature. I am an avid lifelong learner and often find myself a student, something I think gives me insight into my own students’ experiences. My most recent learning experiences consist of learning Adobe Audition to better edit the podcast I co-host, Two Profs in a Pod; a workshop on how best to help our students who are veterans; and the International Gothic Association conference where I met writers and academics who explore all things Gothic.

Outside of teaching, I still pursue learning. My home garden is a result of reading and research and, since I still manage to lose a few plants, I think a learning process that will continue for years. I read books regularly about topics like true crime; historical, political, and cultural nonfiction; Gothic fiction; and even graphic novels. And one of the reasons I love traveling so much is because I get to learn about different cultures.

Since I have been given so many opportunities, I want to give back by helping students get one step closer to their dreams.

I have two degrees--one in Education and English and one in English. This is my 30th year teaching!
