In keeping with the rich tradition of building community and recognizing faculty and staff for exemplary service and dedication to the college, Glendale Community College held its 13th annual Gaucho Globes award ceremony at the Spring 2024 Convocation on Tuesday, January 9, 2023.
Gaucho Globe awards recognize faculty and staff who excel in their jobs and consistently go above and beyond to make Glendale Community College a better place for students, faculty and staff. Each recipient was nominated by their peers and then voted on by a committee.
Here are the Gaucho Globe Award recipients for this year.
- Community Builder Award: Lindsey Walker – Career Services
- Community Outreach Award: Recruitment & Outreach Team - Ivy Avanzado, James Morris, Frankie Roman
- Customer Service Award: Teacher Education Academic Advising Team - Tina Franklin, Jonisha Cooper, Teresa Herrera
- Fostering Team Building Award: John Heckenlaible – Public Information Officer/Director, Marketing & Recruiting
- Innovation Award: GSOC Implementation and Support Team - Dr. Susan Campbell, Martin Bencic, Sally Hervey, Amy Fitzhugh, Chad Stroot, and Drew Nichols.
- Positivity Award: Julie Morrison – Psychology Department Chair, College Assessment & Review Team Director

Glendale Community College provides 41 Associates degrees, 61 certificate programs, and a range of non-degree offerings, all available to students in traditional, online and hybrid formats. Founded in 1965 to serve the northwestern part of the greater Phoenix metropolitan area, the college is part of the Maricopa County Community Colleges District, has two campuses and enrolls approximately 26,000 students annually, and employs approximately 1,000 resident faculty, staff, and administrators with an operational budget of $83 million.
