Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC)
The Maricopa County Community College District Arizona General Education Curriculum (MCCCD AGEC) is a general education certificate that fulfills lower-division general education requirements for students planning to transfer to any Arizona public community or tribal college or Arizona State University (ASU), Northern Arizona University (NAU), and the University of Arizona UA). The AGEC was designed to articulate with different academic majors at the state universities.
Details
Refer to the program (degree) search at curriculum.maricopa.edu (select Current Programs) for specific course requirements by degree type and emphasis. Students should consult with an MCCCD academic advisor to identify coursework that best aligns with the Maricopa Community College degree or emphasis and transfer major.
The Plan Course Requirements and/or Plan Course Electives for some areas of a degree may also have AGEC designations. A single course can simultaneously count between the AGEC and the Plan Prerequisites, Plan Course Requirements, MCCCD requirements, and Plan Course Electives, but the credits are only counted once toward the total for the degree. The minimum credit requirements to satisfy each AGEC requirement are listed below. A course with more credit may also be used to satisfy a requirement if it carries the same AGEC value. AGEC designations are subject to change. See the AGEC matrix for each course’s value(s) in the semester it is taken.
Students are urged to refer to university requirements and consult with academic advisors from both institutions to be certain that all their selected coursework is applicable to the requirements of their intended transfer degree and will not require additional general education coursework after transfer.
Students at any Maricopa Community College may need to complete courses at more than one of our colleges.
The following is the suggested course sequence by term. Please keep in mind:
- Students should meet with an academic advisor to develop an individual education plan that meets their academic and career goals. Use the Degree Progress Report Tool in your Student Center to manage your plan.
- The course sequence is laid out by suggested term and may be affected when students enter the program at different times of the year.
- Initial course placement is determined by current district placement measures and/or completion of 100-200 level course and/or program requirements.
- Degree and transfer seeking students may be required to successfully complete a MCCCD First Year Experience Course (FYE) within the first two semesters at a MCCCD College. Courses include FYE101 and FYE103. Course offerings will vary by college. See an academic, program, or faculty advisor for details.
